Manufacturing has helped lead the economy out of the worst recession since the 1930s. The trade group’s index has surged since late 2009 and hit a 6-year high in April. But as economic growth has slowed this summer, expansion in the manufacturing sector has leveled off.


Pennsylvania CRASH effort puts 198 trucks OOS

The Pennsylvania State Police placed 198 trucks out of service during a one-day enforcement effort that focused on commercial vehicles traveling on the state’s rural roads and non-interstate highways, Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski said Monday.


June 2010 surface trade with Canada and Mexico rises 37.6% from June 2009

BTS, a part of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration, reported that the value of U.S. surface transportation trade with Canada and Mexico in June 2010 remained 5.8 percent below the June 2008 level despite the 2009-2010 increase (Table 3). North American surface freight value rose 4.6 percent in June 2010 from May 2010 (Table 2). Month-to-month changes can be affected by seasonal variations and other factors.


White House gets texting rule

In response to results from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s distracted driving studies, the U.S. Department of Transportation has submitted a final rulemaking to the White House that would ban text messaging while operating a commercial vehicle.


Diesel falls 1.9 cents as oil continues downhill slide

From a week ago at-the-pump price of $2.957, diesel today for the U.S. average was $2.938, while it went from $2.916 last week to $2.888 in the Gulf reporting region.


Polk: Used CV registrations hit record levels

There were 354,400 used commercial vehicles (GVW Class 3-8) registered in the U.S. during the first two quarters of 2010, according to the latest analysis by R.L. Polk and Co.
